Living within sight of this once-dilapidated building is a pleasure now! After six months of work the place looks great. Inside and out. The workers gave me and some other neighbors a tour inside. All brand new, from the hardwood floors, to the windows, doors and ceilings. I can’t wait to see what actually will be going inside. The owner told us his ideas included a corner market, a coffee shop and a wine shop. See here for past entries on the place.

This is fantastic news! I’m so pleased with the final aesthetic results. Now, if only a quaint little restaurant or cafe/bar was to move in…
I received an inside tip that if it’s a wine shop, it will have a particularly generous selection of Georgian wines. Apparently Georgian wine has been in high demand in the U.S. since Russia stopped importing them after their little scuffle.
Maybe the owner can convince Azi to open up a second coffee shop. I love her place at 9th and O, and she’s built a nice business over the last few years.
Georgian wines are the best…and I know my wine. Let’s hope that’s what it is!

I understand that the space doesn’t have a permit now to serve food, only for retail, but if I wonder if he’d consider it if enough people begged him to consider a quaint resteraunt or cute cafe/bar.
Am I the only one that finds it really odd that someone would spend so much money to renovate a property without definitive plans for it? Maybe I’ve become too suspicious, but it raises my “Spidey antennae.”
